Dotster Inc was founded in 1999. The current CEO Clint Page has run the company since 2000, and in that time has built it into a market leading internet service provider. Dotster is owned by the private equity firm Capital Baker.

Its basic shared hosting package offers good value for money, while its larger dedicated plans give businesses the flexibility, storage and speed they need to make a success of their online presence.

An advanced technical infrastructure underpins Dotster’s hosting success. The company aims to achieve 99% uptime and has ample data storage backup. Dotster’s customer support is available by email and online, as well as phone, though this is not available 24/7. It also has a large knowledge base on its website.

In both 2005 and 2006, it received the Users' Choice Award by Name Intelligence. Also in 2005, the company was selected by the Tech Awards as the ‘Privately Held Company of the Year’. On a local level, Dotster was a 2004 finalist for the Oregon Entrepreneurial Company of the Year award.
